Catherine N. Vespa, 88, passed peacefully on June 22, 2016 in San Antonio, FL. She was born on August 13, 1927 to Ray H. Neisewander and Audrienne Murphy Neisewander and attended St. Patricks Catholic School. She married Edward A. Vespa on July 4, 1943 who preceded her in death in November, 2007 after 64 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by son Edward R. Vespa in 2013 and son David J. Vespa in 2014 as well as great granddaughter Cody Lynn Vespa in 1995, Sister Margaret Bradley and Brother Ray H. Neisewandern II. She was the proud matriarch of the Vespa family which consisted of 5 living generations including son, James A Vespa of Port St. Joe, FL; daughter, Catherine L. Vespa of San Antonio, FL; and daughter-in-law; Patricia (David) Vespa of Rockford. She has six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren with another on the way. Catherine spent most of her life in Springfield except for nine years in Rockford (1960-1968) where Ed was the InnKeeper of the Holiday Inn. While in Rockford she was an avid bridge player, bowler, and ceramic artist. After returning to Springfield where Edward was the executive Vice President of the Raynor Holiday Inn Group, she and Ed were active members of the Newcomers Club and the KISS Camping Club. Her hobbies included weekly ladies bridge functions, ceramics, and sewing. After her husbands passing, she spent most of her time relaxing in Florida with her favorite poodle companion Buddy Holly. Funeral Mass will be held 11:30 am, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at St. Cabrini Church with Reverend Richard Chiola officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
