Coleman, Byard D. Dick, 73 of San Antonio, FL (originally from Charleston, WV) passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Dick was preceded in death by his son, Jeff. He is survived by his wife: Donna; other children: Matt (Robbie) Coleman, Brad (Tonya) Coleman, Jennifer (Jeremy) Coleman-Tinsley. Also surviving are five grandchildren and many friends including his lifelong friend, Darrel Eary. Dick was an Air Force veteran and a lifelong entrepreneur. He started Colemans Parking Lots in the 1950s and created the Jeffco Car Care Centers in the 1980s in Charleston, WV, while also participating in growing a chain of Captain Ds restaurants in NC. He and his wife, Donna, created a highly successful gift shop in the 1990s called The Apple Barrel in Mint Hill, NC. They also invested in resort cabins in Pigeon Forge, TN and created another company called Apple Design in 2000 to prepare newly constructed cabins for rental and for sales. Retiring to Florida in the mid 2000s led to plenty of golf and lots of new friends. As seems appropriate, Dick concluded the last of his business projects in March of this year. He passed away at home with his wife and children and several friends surrounding him. A celebration of his life will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home 5th Street Chapel, 1pm Thursday, May 10, 2012. A private family burial will be held in West Virginia.
