Bruce Ralph Geroux, age 85, passed away on the early morning of Monday, October 5, 2026 in Tampa, Florida.
Bruce was born on October 31, 1940 in Glens Falls, New York to parents Chloe Lillian (Bowman) Geroux Fisher and George J. Geroux. His mother, Lillian, remarried to Forrest Fisher, who became Bruce’s stepfather. Bruce was raised alongside numerous siblings: George (Sonny), Robert, Donald, Joan, Jane, and a step-brother, Forrest (Sonny).
Bruce’s childhood was much more than just family life, as he had a streak of athletic prowess. He played basketball, ran track, and was a true star in football. After the City Championship Game in 1959, Bruce received the Gerald J. Donnelly MVP award, an accomplishment recognizing standout regional athletes in the Glens Falls area.
While attending Glens Falls High School, he had 3 close friends: Howard Chandler, Abe Norman, and Scott Richardson. After graduation in 1960, he kept in contact with them even as education continued and family life began. Bruce went on to attend the State University of New York - Cobleskill Ag & Tech and graduated with an Associate’s degree in 1962. Later in life, he graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
Following his graduation, Bruce entered the United States Air Force on March 28, 1963. During his military career, Bruce spent two years on the Dow Air Force (SAC) Base in Bangor, Maine and an additional two years on Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. While in the Air Force, Bruce took computer operator courses that greatly helped his civilian career later in life. His career in the military ended honorably on March 27, 1967.
Bruce was employed by WR Grace Co., by Zayre as a programmer, with Hit or Miss as the Manager of MIS, and contract programming with a consulting company. He was also self-employed for a number of years doing contract programming. Bruce was a highly successful programmer and manager, taking it to the next level with entrepreneurship as his contract programming was for the government, education, and corporate entities.
Bruce’s early athleticism followed him beyond his high school days. He continued to play basketball in community settings until age 74. Golf was a lifelong passion, finishing up his final game just two weeks before he had passed.
More than an athlete, a veteran, and a successful programmer – Bruce was a beloved husband and father. Bruce married his wife, Sandra Jean Petorelli Geroux, in Rhode Island on December 12, 1984. From there, they enjoyed decades of marriage full of travelling. Cruises all over the world and accompanying Sandy on international speaking engagements (and adding on some extra time for vacations, of course) were some of the absolute best times the couple had shared together. Sandy and Bruce did more travelling than just vacations, as they had moved from Lincoln to Bristol, Rhode Island, then to Orlando, Florida in 2000 and finally to Wesley Chapel, Florida in 2019.
Bruce’s two children, Steven and Cathleen, lived with him when Sandy joined their family in 1984. Bruce’s kind, gentle, loving, and even-tempered disposition made Bruce a wonderful father. His quick wit, his dry humor, and his commitment to taking the time to laugh and play with the people around him solidified his role as a family man.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Sandra J. Geroux of Wesley Chapel, Florida; his children: Steven R. Geroux of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; Cathleen L. Geroux of Gastonia, North Carolina and her spouse, Paul Conti Jr.; and his grandchildren: Alex Corriveau of Woonsocket, RI; Hannah Pacheco of Attleboro, MA; Grace Geroux of Cumberland, RI; and Lily Geroux of Cumberland, RI. He will also be remembered fondly by his sisters: Joan Geroux Lavigne of Fort Edward, NY and Jane Geroux Buckley of El Cajon, CA and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws from Florida to New York, North Carolina, and New Mexico.
A memorial service will be held for Bruce on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Hodges Family Funeral Home at 36327 Pure Water Way in Zephyrhills, Florida, 33541. He will be interred at a later date at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
