IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bruce Stanley
Burkevich
May 16, 1943 – January 31, 2021
Bruce Stanley Burkevich, the man who called everyone friend, laughed with his whole body, and dedicated years of service to veterans and wounded warriors, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 31, 2021 in Florida.
Bruce was born May 16, 1943 in Easton, Pennsylvania to Albert and Reba Burkevich and proudly served the United States Air Force from 1962 through 1966 as a B-47 Bomber Engine Technician. After serving four years active duty, Bruce served as a reservist until 1968. Upon completion of his military service, he joined General Electric as a part of their Aircraft Engine Business Group.
All who knew Bruce would tell you he was a social butterfly who loved to get involvedin his community. He was a member of the Elks Portsmouth Lodge "97" in New Hampshire for many years where he served in several leadership roles and later joined his local Floridian Elks Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed golf and travel. Above all, he loved having his friends gathered for laughter and storytelling.
Bruces true passion was to serve the veterans in his local community. He began an annual Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament in 2011 that continues today. He deeply cared for the Amputee Veterans Administration Support Team (AVAST) and while he was awarded several certificates of appreciation, the true reward for Bruce was seeing the Veterans smile and hearing their laughter. He was also heavily involved with Liberty Manor for Veterans and used his home as a hub for donations. This organization plays a major role in assisting veterans in their goal to reestablish their life and home after returning from combat. It brought great joy to Bruce when he scheduled a large pick up from his porch. It was fulfilling for him to know the impact he and his community were able to make for those who protect them and their freedoms.Bruce is survived by his loving wife Suzanne and her three children, sister Brenda Monaco of Maryland, a niece, and two nephews. He loved being Grandpa B and playing in the "Talking Tree" with he and Suzannes seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Terrel and Glen, and his Brother-in-Law, Nick Monaco. Bruces generosity, kindness, and big smile will be greatly missed by his family and his Tampa Bay community.
Bruce will be buried on February 12, 2021, at 2:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project or any other veterans support group.
