Obituary

Brent William Sutton, 63 Dade City resident Brent William Sutton, 63, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center Magnolia Campus Hospital with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church of Dade City. Visitation will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to either the Dade City Sunrise Rotary Club or the University of Florida chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho New Chapter House Project. Brent was born on October 12, 1959, in Clearwater, FL to Anna Rheba Ulmer and Richard Josiah Sutton. He grew up in Palm Harbor, FL with his older brother, Gary, and his younger sister, Rebecca. During his childhood, Brent was actively involved in his school and community. He was a member of Troop 26 Boy Scouts and was a member of the Upper Pinellas 4-HClub for eight years. Brent was a member of the Tarpon Springs High School Marching Band for four years. He created a "Blues Brothers" tribute band and took them to state competitions. As a 1982 graduate from the University of Florida with his Bachelor of Science in Fruit Crops, Brent was an avid Gator fan. He was a Gator Booster for more than 40 years. During his undergraduate years, he joined Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, and remained an active alum, serving on the advisory board for the chapter and campaigning to remodel the chapter house. In addition to the Florida Gators, Brent enjoyed cheering on local teams, such as the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Rays. He was a Mets baseball fan, only because his older brother Gary cheered for the Yankees sibling rivalry. Brent spent his entire career in the field of Agriculture. Lykes Agrisales moved him to Dade City, Florida in 1983, which is where he met Michele McNally at a pool party at her parents house. During his career, Brent was on the board of Florida Fertilizer and Agrichemical Association, and Chem Nut, Inc. He married Michele on July 22, 1989, at the First Presbyterian Church in Dade City. Brent followed his father-in-law, Ed McNallys footsteps to join the Rotary Club and served on the board of the East Pasco Medical Center. He went on to serve as President of the Dade City Sunrise Rotary Club. He was an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and served as Lay Leader for the First United Methodist Church of Dade City for more than 20 years. Brent is survived by his wife, Michele Sutton; their two daughters and son-in-law, Katie Sutton, Maggie and Ben Merryday; and his granddaughter, Madison Katherine Merryday. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Anna Rheba and Richard Sutton. To contribute to the Dade City Sunrise Rotary Club, checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 1357 Dade City, FL 33526-1357.
