Arthur E. Phelps Jr.

Arthur E. Phelps Jr. of Zephyrhills, FL and formerly from South Glens Falls, NY passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Art and family moved from New York to Florida in 1974. Art married Betty Martin in 1951, sharing 68 wonderful years together. After graduating, Art worked in construction and went on to have a successful career in sales. Once they moved to Florida, he pursued a career in carpentry. Art was a man of few words, however, when he spoke he had the ear of his audience. He was a man who was well respected not just for his abilities but also for his philosophies. He instilled the values of hard work and dedication in his family. Art balanced those values with his sense of humor, generosity, and kindness. Art has always been there for his family, by using his expertise in construction to help with various projects, and also through his wisdom and compassion in times of need. He was fortunate to travel around the United States and Europe. The Smokey Mountains always held a special place in his heart. Art is survived by his wife Betty; daughters: Lynn Woodruff (Paul), Nancy Smith, and Paula Davis (Ben); and son, Arthur Phelps III (Christel). His family is blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved. He is also survived by siblings from New York, including a sister: Shirley Caruso; and a brother: Ronald Phelps; as well as several nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his son, David Phelps; his parents, Arthur and Myrta Phelps; and brother, Wayne Phelps. Graveside services will be held for family and friends at Chapel Hill Gardens, adjacent to Hodges Funeral Home, 11531 Hwy 301, Dade City, FL 33525 at 11:30am on November 8, 2019.
