Arthur (Art) Orman Gay passed away on June 6, 2026, in Tampa, FL, at the James A. Haley Hospital, with family by his side.
Art was born on December 30, 1937, in Orlando, FL, to Orman Homa Gay and Leila Miller Gay. He spent the first three years of his life in Orlando, FL, before moving to Tifton, GA. He graduated from Tifton High School in 1955, and then moved to Atlanta, GA, where he enrolled in Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated with a bachelors' degree in Industrial Management in 1959. After graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corp with a rank of First Lieutenant, and was honorably discharged in 1963.
He and Ramona were married in 1964. Art went on to become Assistant to the President of Georgia Plywood Corporation; Sales Engineer for Georgia Pacific Corporation; and just prior to joining Lykes Pasco, he was the Assistant General Manager of an Electric Corporation in Florida.
He joined Lykes Pasco in Dade City, Florida, as Regional Marketing Manager, and was on the sales team for the largest private label and controlled brand processor in the citrus industry, and he went on to become the Regional Manager of West Coast Growers.
Art retired from Lykes Pasco in 1995, and, just for the fun of it, he and his wife, Ramona, went on a 7-year adventure, driving an 18-wheeler, crisscrossing the United States. It was a great experience.
Art was a skilled craftsman and a true artisan. He enjoyed making replicas of exquisite pieces of furniture featured in Architectural Digest, and his replicas looked identical to the original. He also enjoyed painting, reading, and puzzles as well as playing the guitar, banjo and harmonica. At the age of eleven, he and a close buddy played their harmonicas on the radio on Saturday mornings. He was also a hunter and fisherman, played tennis and golf, and was a great story teller.
Art was survived by his wife, Ramona; daughter, Lisa Renee Nix; son, Orman David Gay (Kristie); grandson, Joshua Gay; grandson, Michael Lamar Nix; granddaughter, Lexi Williams and grandson, Christopher Williams; grandson, Alex Williams (Jasmine); great grandson, Mateo; and several nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Miller Gay, and grandson, Samuel Stephen Nix.
Art was a loving father and husband, who enjoyed his church, and was a one-of-a-kind gentlemen. A viewing will be held on Monday, June 22, from 5:00-7:00 P.M., and the funeral will be on Tuesday, June 23, at 11:00 A.M.. Both services will be at Dade City Christian Church (11800 Windsor wood blvd, Dade City, Florida), On Tuesday, the funeral will be followed by a military graveside service at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 1:00 P.M.
