Obituary

Arlene Mudry Mahlke, 82, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Zephyrhills, FL. She was born on September 5, 1941, in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI to parents, Dolores and Rodger Hugh Dorsey Butler. Arlene grew up in Michigan and graduated in 1959 from Waterford Township High School. She moved to Gibsonton, Florida in 1967 and then to Tampa in 1980, finally settling in the Betmar Community of Zephyrhills. Arlene attended Community College and pursued her Accounting Career which spanned to her retirement in 2023. She worked as an Accountant at Centex Homes, Judd Baggett CPA, and lastly, at Dean Johnson's Music, INC. She also earned her real estate certification. Arlene was a gifted singer and enjoyed all music but especially loved the Opera. In high school, her goal was to become an opera singer and she was very accomplished. She let that dream go as she started her own family, but she never quit music. She was always a member of her church choir, did solo performances for weddings and events and she was a member of a women's quartet. Arlenes hobbies were crafting, painting, and collecting antique dolls. She also became a member of the Toastmasters Club where she learned the art of public speaking. She enjoyed watching NFL football, but more than anything, she enjoyed watching sports and performances her children and grandchildren did. She was an exceptional and loving Mother and Grandmother, always prioritizing family first and giving her utmost love and support. Arlene is survived by her children, Kimbra Elser and her husband Garry D., Christopher Ihrke and his wife Gina, and James Mudry; grandchildren, Garry M. Elser and his wife Julia, Keith Elser and his wife Erin, and Michelle Elser; great-grandchildren, Veronika, Ariana, Chloe, Garry L., Piper, and Harper; sister, Deanna Austin and her husband Walt; sister-in-law, Marietta Butler; nieces and nephews, Cliff Butler and his wife Linda, Jeff Austin and his wife Tammy, Colette Connor and her husband Steve, Corinne Weaver and her husband, Scott, and Denise Bates and her husband Jay; and great-nephews and nieces, Denelle, Melissa, Ryann, Jordan, Jarred, Joshua, Reilly, Chase, Devon, and Carter. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Mahlke, and her siblings, Kay Butler and James Butler. A Celebration of Life is to be determined at a later date.
