Anna Mae Thurston, 99 of the Vilas Home, died Thursday, February 27, 2014. She was born in Hillsdale , NY on December 24, 1914 the daughter of Martin and Anna (Van Tassel) Alamillo. Anna graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1931 and the NYS Teachers College in Albany, NY, in 1935. She worked as an Assistant Postmaster in a post office in Hillsdale for 6 years, before returning back to school attending Albany Business School. Anna taught in Watertown at the Watertown School of Commerce, that was where she met her husband, Charles Thurston. They married Aug. 24, 1947 and lived in Canton, NY for a while. In 1952 Charles and Anna moved to Manlius, NY where Anna was a bookkeeper at Lipes Dairy at untill retiring in 1982. Charles and Anna moved to Florida. Charles passed away in 2004 and Anna returned to the North Country to be with family. Survivors include her sister-in-law Elizabeth Bancoft and several nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded by her parents; 3 brothers, Kenneth Alamillo, Raymond Alamillo and Howard Amamillo. She was laid to rest a Chapel Hill Gardens in Dade City.Donations may be made to Vilas Home, 61 Beeman St, Plattsburg, NY 12901.
