Obituary

Alfreda Frances (Klimas) Lowke, 76, of San Antonio, FL, passed away on the early morning of May 4, 2024. Freda was born on April 3rd, 1948, in Reutelingen, Germany to her loving parents Katharine (Walasee) Klimas and Anton Klimas. After arriving in the United States via Ellis Island, Freda grew up in Hartford, CT in a close-knit family alongside her siblings Helen, Antonina, Maksymillian, Maria, Casimir, Gus, and Sophie. She was also blessed with one of her dearest friends through her high school years and beyond, Haline Kedzior. Freda graduated from Bulkeley High School, Hartford, CT in 1966. Freda married John Charles Lowke on Jan. 20, 1968 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church in Hartford, CT. At this time, Freda became a U.S Navy wife, and this would take her to several states. From Newport News, VA to Groton, CT, which is when she gave birth to her first son, Jon Steven Lowke. Brief stints in Texas and in Washington State led them back to Groton, CT where she gave birth to her first daughter, Jennifer Suzanne Lowke, and her youngest son, James Anthony Lowke. Several more Navy tours took the young family to Jacksonville, FL, Virginia Beach, VA, and Norwich, CT. Once in Norwich, Freda began working in banking at the Norwich Savings Society. After several years, the family moved back to Virginia Beach, VA where Freda worked as a Real Estate Assistant. After a brief stint in Maryland, Freda and John relocated to Land O Lakes, FL and eventually retired and settled in San Antonio, Florida. Upon building their new home in San Antonio, FL, Freda began studying at the Pasco County extension to become a Master Gardener. Her home landscape became a palette of vegetables, tropical flowers, and a tribute garden to her daughter, Jennifer. Freda was defined by her love of her husband, children, and grandchildren as well as an indomitable faith in God, the Bible, and her local church. She was an avid gardener and worked with tremendous energy to care for her yard and tend to her flowers, wildlife, and butterflies. Freda was also a very resourceful and excellent cook and would make family dinners on Sundays and major holidays. Freda was very passionate, expressive, and strong. She had a tremendous attention to detail, marked by a very tidy home, and she was also an excellent writer. Freda is survived by her husband, John Charles Lowke; her children Jon Lowke, his wife Jennifer, and James Lowke; her grandchildren Taylor, Ashley, Jared, and LJ; her sister Sophie Andrzejczuk of Newington, CT, and many other family and friends whom she deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the American Cancer Society.
