Obituary

Moore, Albert Harrison "Al", 85, of Dade City, FL passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Al was born on July 22, 1937 in Charleston, WV to Elmer and Garnet Moore. He grew up on the family farm being chased by a Rhode Island Red while running to the outhouse, stealing the neighbors horse to ride down to the creek, blowing up the stove with bullets, and walking 20 miles to school after getting kicked off the bus. At 17, he joined the military after telling the recruiter he was born in 1936 and was really 18. The next nine years he served in the Navy, Air Force, and the Army where he fought in the Vietnam War. He never spoke much about this part of his life after losing military buddies and being shot himself. However, he was very proud to be a Veteran and wore his hat, covered in pins, everywhere he went. He met the love of his life, Julie, after doing her dad a favor. Julie was engaged to another man and Al was tasked with breaking them up, per her dads request. He did just that and married her on July 4, 1974. They began to build their lives in a tiny apartment in Homestead, FL where their feet would be in the kitchen while using the restroom. After raising their family in Homestead and moving to Tallahassee for a few years, they settled in Dade City, FL where Al spent his time hating his neighbors, laughing at his dog scaring the goats, and calling the county to complain about the corner store at the end of the road. Al always believed in living his best life. His love for cars and motorcycles manifested itself repeatedly throughout his life, owning several of them over the years. He was always very handy and would work on them or at least leave them sitting nicely in the yard. He also enjoyed carving wood, drawing, painting, and singing. He spent many years playing in the band "The Frontiersmen" and recording his own music which he would loudly play for anyone willing to listen. Al was predeceased by his father, Elmer Moore, his mother, Garnet Moore, his grandmother, Grace Moore, his brother, Ray Moore, his son, Derrick Rogers, and his sisters, Phyllis Parsons and Annabelle Grose. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Julie Moore, his daughters, Amanda McCoy (David) and Meredith Mears, his grandchildren, Kevyn Connelly, Austin Garrett, Peyton Mears, and Kailee Mears, his nephews and a niece as well as a host of people who loved him and his stubborn ways. Services will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Hodges Funeral Home in Dade City, FL.
