Albert "Al" James Rubel, 89, of Dade City, Florida, passed away on September 20, 2026. He was born on April 16, 1937, in Pemberville, Ohio, to Ferald Wilbur Ruble and Kathryn Graber.

Al grew up in Pemberville, attending elementary and high school, graduating in 1957. He was an accomplished basketball player who earned All-Wood County tournament recognition in 1955. From 1957 to 1959, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas. After his discharge, he attended barber school in Columbus, Ohio.

On April 4, 1959, Al married Kathryn Smith, the mother of his children. Al then married his late wife, Sherri Prowant on December 25, 1972.

He owned Rubel Barber Shop with his father from 1959 to 1972, then traded his barber's chair for a career in the moving business. In 1984, he took over Prowant Moving and Storage in Mornington, Ohio, and later worked with Atlas Van Lines in Zephyrhills, Florida, until his retirement in 2009. He and Sherri made their home in Dade City.

Whether he was out on the golf course, tending his garden, adding to his model car collection, or settling in for a game of bingo, Al found plenty to enjoy. He loved dogs and cheered for the Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays. Those who knew him will remember his dry sense of humor and the smiles it brought.

Al is survived by his children, Douglas Rubel of Roanoke, Virginia; Jeff Rubel (Michael Inoye) of Seattle, Washington; Cindy Bridges (John) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Craig Rubel and Matthew Cummings of Indianapolis, Indiana; and his stepsons, Kelly Rittenhouse (Patty) of Hastings, Minnesota, and Mitch Rittenhouse (Margaret) of Scottsdale, Minnesota.

He is also survived by six grandchildren: Joshua Treft (Danielle) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Justin Treft (Merissa) and Chelsea Hart (Nathan) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Amanda Rubel of Morrisville, North Carolina; and Emma Bruening (Dan) and Anna Rubel of Huntersville, North Carolina. His 12 great-grandchildren are Ethan, Mya, Aiden, Tenley, Kelleah, Ava, Mackenzie, Hayden, Robin, Amelia, Isla, and Michael.

Al was preceded in death by his wife, Sherri; his stepson, Sean Rittenhouse; his brother, Eddie Rubel; and his sister, Eloise Rubel Newton.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2027, at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City, Florida in Al's honor. Inurnment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens.
