Alan John (Al) Slade, 84, of Zephyrhills, FL, died on August 12, 2026, at the Advent Health hospital in Wesley Chapel, FL. Al was born on Sept. 12, 1941, in Rugby, United Kingdom and the family then emigrated to America in July, 1948 when Al was 6.

Al grew up in Hyattsville, MD where he graduated from Northwestern High School. He served in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve from June, 1962 – April, 1968 and later obtained an Associates Degree from Miami Dade College. His was previously married to the late Anne Yanella.

His professional life included working in the printing industry in Washington, DC and as CEO of Transpo, Inc., an air freight forwarding service in Northern Virginia. In 1982, he married the former Barbara Steffek Clizbe and her three children: Joe, Mary, and Lisa. The new family re-located to Frederick, Md, and the Shannon and Slade Radio Show was born. Al and his partner, George Shannon, played eclectic music and provided family-rated humor on several Frederick County radio stations for a wide demographic.

With the children grown, Al started Slade and Associates Advertising, specializing in award-winning light-hearted radio, television, and print advertising as well as newsletters and specialties, continuing until 2016 when health circumstances led to his retirement and relocation to Zephyrhills, Florida where Al and Barb lived at the time of his death. Beyond his passion for humor and his love for the Washington Nationals (win or lose), he also loved music and drawing. He was an excellent writer, always of G-rated, light-hearted wit.

Surviving are: Wife, Barbara; son Joseph (Sarbani) Clizbe of Woodbridge, VA ; daughter Mary (Tom) Barry of Frederick, MD; Lisa Wisner of Lakeland, FL; granddaughters Alexandra and Lauren Clizbe (Jake Anderson) and Monika Wisner; nephew Michael (Delora) Slade, nieces Angie Slade and Amy Slade; and cousin Ruth Slade.

He was pre-deceased by his father, Laurence E. Slade, his mother, Marjorie (Molly nee Hidden), and his brother, Graham L. Slade.

Cremation is being handled by Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City, FL and a private celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of any flowers, please make a donation to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at T2T.org.
