Winona Joyce (Daniel) Burchett, 80, died Saturday, May 30, 2015. Born in Aliquippa, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Alice (Cripe) Daniel and had been a Hampton resident since 1969. Winona attended Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, before marrying her high school sweetheart and life-long companion, Chalbert. For 20 years, they traveled together to places abroad and within the U.S., raising 7 children while proudly serving as a military (Army) family.Arriving for a tour of duty in Hampton, VA, they found their forever home and became active members of West Hampton Baptist Church. For 45 years, Winona served the church, especially the Childrens Ministry, in a variety of roles. Her love for Christ and for all of Gods children was her passion and her calling, and she shared her loving spirit with all she met.Winona Burchett is survived by six children, Chuck Burchett and wife Betty Jean, Valerie Briggs, Victoria Burchett, Virginia Marks and husband Rick, Verna Pickin and husband John, Vivian Tyler and husband Barry; one sister, Wanda Mohler; one sister-in-law, Beverly Daniel; fourteen grandchildren; and, six great-grandchildren. Winona was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Chalbert W. Burchett; their beloved son, Craig Burchett; son-in-law, Al Briggs; sister, Winnifred Peresie; brothers, Bobby and Ray Daniel; and brother-in-law, Hank Mohler.A funeral service will be led by Pastor Brian Adams at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at West Hampton Baptist Church, 631 Aberdeen Road, Hampton, VA. The family will receive friends immediately following the service during a reception at the church. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, at Williams Cemetery, Williams Cemetery Road, Dade City, FL. Virginia arrangements by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton.
